Thank you for all your help, but I've come to realize that I am too cheap to lay down the cash necessary for a nice shifter. I think I will just be happy with what I have. Like ArchDuke said "It has character."

The leather Mopar knob for my car is apparently $200+ and I can't seem to find another that allows for the reverse lockout on my car.

Be careful of the 'universal' knobs — they use rubber adapters and set screws and stuff instead of matching the thread pitch on the shifter, so if those come loose the knob gets wobbly. Flying' Miata sells an adapter for Momo knobs if you go that route. But again, I'd look for a knob that screws directly on if possible.

Yeah I would like to get a Mazda nob thinking the threads would be the same

My Jeep has a jack daniels pool ball (like from a pool table) bought it off a guy selling them on a Jeep forum. My mustang has an American Muscle retro ball with the shift pattern engraved into the top. I love balls...But I'd say it is worth the money for a nice shifter. Considering how much time you spend using it. Not sure what your threading is but my suggestion is just drop the dough for something nice.

*drums roll*

No idea how you prefer to grip it, but I've always found almost-round shapes to be both universal and neat to touch or rest your hand on (I know ... ).

Don't know if you can get this one from DE, but it's generally well-made and should be neat to grab. Reviews are quite postive, too, should you care about not buying the cat in the bag:

What about a Momo shift knob? You can find them at a decent price, and they're good quality!

I have a solid aluminum ball that came with mine. It's a bit scuffed and scratched, but that's just character.

Good wood carving set: 50$

Chunk of wood of your choice: 5-10$

Finishing/Resin/Expoxy: $20

Being able to make your own custom-fitted, personally-weighted, beautiful shifter for the rest of your life: Priceless.

I couldnt find anything better for just a shift knob than the sparco you found. I think its looks good.

The WRC should be cheap enough (about $30 here), even though it seems to be an actual licensed product.

What did it display for you?

God, don't get me started on this shit. I want a nicer shifter for my NC like NOW, but I refuse to spend over $100 on something that so clearly cost like $20 to make.

Gah.

You work in Mazda parts right? What would a Speed3 shifter set me back? I'm guessing the threads would be compatible with my 6-speed 3.

Oh I didn't check the WRC one but considering my car has nothing to do with rallying I would feel weird about it. If I still had my Subie that would be another story. :)

Yes, all Mazdas are the same. And stupid priced. Like, $100 for a rubber one, and $300 for leather.

Checked them out they are nice but if I'm going to spend that kind of cash I want to really like the style and none popped out. :/

Get a chunk of balsa wood. Sand it into shape, which is easy because balsa is super soft. Porsche 917 style.

You'll snub the Alfa aluminium knob for similar reasons then. ;)

If you find it curious that I post DE links – I tried finding Momo parts on Amazon US & CA but was disappointed, so I ran back to my local bargain bin.

Let's see ... minimalist Walser sparco aluminium knob (~40 CAD):

Kinja'd!!!

Even more minimalist satinized aluminium knob by Richbrook, ~55 CAD:

Kinja'd!!!

Ooh, this one you might actually fancy, as it's almost the same shape as the Tecno but full aluminium ... Richbrook aluminium touring car-style knob (also a guesstimated 50-55 CAD):

Kinja'd!!!

One more Richbrook, touring plus something, also the same basic shape, ~60 CAD:

See my response. depending on the metals, the taps required, and any special modification (mine is threaded at a 15 degree angle to get the perfect feel on my Subie, whereas the Seven has it straight, i.e much less work and setup).
